Common Questions: Regarding Escalade 2002  ABS- Module Repair

1-Where is the 2002 Escalade  ABS Module(EBCM)  located ? & IS THIS SOMETHING I can Take out and send it myself ?  It is located Under the Car ,somewhere in the area of between the  driver seat and passnger seat near Fuel Filter. This is NOT a do it yourself Project,You need Professional set up, Like Lift for automatic  bleeding with all 4 Tires off, Full espectrum professinal Scanner capable of  Automatic Bleeding Precedures like a TECH 2 Scanners can  do.  and access to All Data system . DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME or OURS.

2-Can I drive my Escalade if the ABS(EBCM) is taken off ?:  Yes.Only if the ABS Module part(the Electronoc Part is seperated , not the Pump assembly also Called Valve assembly also called BPMV ).In the case when EBCM /ABS module is seperated from the car,all connectors/Harnesses must be covered with aluminum foil then duck taped to prevent water, dust or mud splashing into wiring connectors.) when the ABS/Module(the electronic Part) is seperated from the Car, the car computer system automatically switches to manual , the car . is driveable, but does not have ABS.(Automatic Brake Control System).

3-What happens if the entire Valve assembly (or so called: Pump or BPMV) is taken off ? .You can not Drive the car .untill the entire pump/Valve assembly reinstalled, and in that case the bleeding precedure is needed to be preformed.and in case that some fluid has been lost, regular bleeding precedure may not adjust the ABS Valve assembly ,then special Internal Valve assembly bleeding precedure must be done using TECH II  General Motore Scan tool.otherwise the ABS light or Service Stability Light satays on and can not be cleared.
Important
The introduction of air into the brakes' hydraulic system due to a  or  BPMV replacement or for any other reason may cause DTC C0285 or C0286 to set. If it suspected that air may have been introduced to the hydraulic system, use the scan tool to perform the VSES Automated Bleed procedure and the Bleed MPA procedure . You must refer to ABS Automated Bleed Procedure for complete system bleeding instructions.(we will email the instruction precedure after rebuild of module)   If you use a used Pump  (BPMV) assembly with a Rebuilt EBCM Module and you still have Service stability light on,Most likely that is because the pump assembly has been sitting unused for a long time in Junk yard and the the valves may be rusted internally ,you better use the Original Pump .

4-We tried to open the 4 bolts that hold the ABS Module(EBCM the electronic Control Part)from the Pump(the Valve assembly) but it is rusted and we were told the whole thing has to be taken out. can we send the ABS with the whole pump assembly to you for rebuild ? Yes you can ,But try to spray loosener spray  not on the bolts but on the base of the bolts where the Plastic Module meets the metal suface of valve assembly and wait for a while.IF you can not open the rusted bolt ,try to cut off the head of that bolt that is rusted with small circular Carbon fiber saw,The  whole system is about 14 pounds, while the ABS-Module(the black Plastic Controller Part is only 2 pounds),the Cost of shipping can be $45 Extra, but if you send the ABS Module only ,there is no extra shipping charge to you ,in this case we cover the regular cost of shipping .
5-How much is the cost if we send Only the electronic Module ? $145  ,shipped back  in 24 hours. if you want the same day service and Overnight express shippment, it will be $55 more, total of $200.

6-one of the wheels locks up after driving for a while. we replaced the caliper ,hoses and some parts, did not fix the problem ,any idea?  YES:" Blessed Are those who seek the  guidence from the guided one (the experienced Experts )," also remember  little knowledge is dangerous.!. The ABS/EBCM will cause those  problems when is defective. You could have saved yourself some time and cost by having the car Scanned by Scan tool ,it would have indicated the problem with the EBCM (the electronic Control part of the ABS :the Module).
If you have to ship the whole Pump /valve assembly ,make sure is well insulated ,and the Plastic part(the electronic ABS Module) is facing the top of the box ,in case is dropped the the module will not be crushed .
7-Shipping ?  Shipping is by US Postal service (USPS),We do not ship Standard also Called Ground ,it is too slow and takes 6 days .We ship Priority Mail which only takes 2 days from here to your address.

8-What is Fast and lower Price to ship our Module to you?  We think is Post office "Priority Mail Medium Flat Rate Box ,it cost Flat Price of $12.35 ,and it takes 2 days to ship from your address to ours.",You do not need any Tape or packaging Materials ,Just rap the module in 7 or 8 pages of wrinckled news paper or soft insulation and place it in one of those Free big White & Red Flat Boxes (priority Mail Printed on them) with self adheisive on both sides (3"x12"x20") that are available  FREE in the post office lobby,Priority mail Comes with FREE Tracking Number printed on your receipt that you can track at USPS.com or calling 1800-222-1811  at  post office.

If you have to send the ABS Module with the Valve Assembly(BPMV) also called Pump assembly ,the weight of your package will be 11 pounds more, and the size of the package will be 5 times bigger and the cost of shipping it back to you will cost  extra  $45 using Postal service priority 2 days expedited shipping. 98% of the time shops will send us only the Module (ABS/EBCM the above image) which is about 2 pounds.in that case we cover the shipping cost.but if the part is Rusted and not easy to seperate the Module from the pump/Valve assembly .then you should click here to pay the extra shipping cost $45 plus the $145 Rebuild cost,Total of  $190

Something like this will take extra $145 to rebuild

Precedure after installing a Rebuilt EBCM

The following automated ABS bleed procedure is required when one of the following occur:

Manual bleeding at the wheel cylinders does not achieve the desired pedal height or feel.
Service Stability Light Or .. still ON.

BPMV replacement  (The Pump)

Extreme loss of brake fluid has occurred.

Air ingestion is suspected or  and Still have  Some Codes  : 285 or  286
If none of the above conditions apply, use standard bleed procedures. This a similar Precedure:
The auto bleed procedure is used on BOSH 5.3 equipped vehicles. This procedure uses a scan tool to cycle the system solenoid valves and run the pump in order to purge the air from the secondary circuits. These secondary circuits are normally closed off, and are only opened during system initialization at vehicle start up and during ABS operation. The automated bleed procedure opens these secondary circuits and allows any air trapped inside the BPMV to flow out toward the wheel cylinders or calipers where it can be purged out of the system.
Inspect the battery for full charge, repair the battery and charging system, as necessary.
Connect a scan tool to the data link connector (DLC) and select current and history DTCs. Repair any DTCs prior to performing the ABS bleed procedure. Inspect for visual damage and leaks and repair, as needed.

Raise and vehicle on a suitable support.

Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

  Remove all 4 tires.

Connect the pressure bleeding tool according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Turn the ignition switch to RUN position, engine off.

Connect a scan tool and establish communications with the ABS system.

Pressurize the bleeding tool to 30-35 psi (206-241 kPa).

  Performing the Automated Bleed Procedure
  NOTE
The Auto Bleed Procedure may be terminated at any time during the process by pressing the EXIT button. No further Scan Tool prompts pertaining to the Auto Bleed procedure will be given. After exiting the bleed procedure, relieve bleed pressure and disconnect bleed equipment per manufacturers instructions. Failure to properly relieve pressure may result in spilled brake fluid causing damage to components and painted surfaces.

With the pressure bleeding tool at 30-35 psi (206-241 kPa), and all bleeder screws in closed position, select Automated Bleed Procedure on the scan tool and follow the instructions.

The first part of the automated bleed procedure will cycle the pump and front release valves for one minute. After the cycling has stopped the scan tool will enter a cool down mode and display a 3 minute timer. The auto bleed will not continue until this timer expired, and cannot be overridden.

During the next step, the scan tool will request the technician to open one of the bleeder screws. The scan tool will then cycle the respective release valve and pump motor for one minute.

The scan tool will repeat step 3 for the remaining bleeder screws.

With the bleeder tool still attached to the vehicle and maintaining 30-35 psi (206-241 kPa), the scan tool will instruct the technician to independently open each bleeder screw for approximately 20 seconds. This should allow any remaining air to be purged from the brake lines.

When the automated bleed procedure is completed the scan tool will display the appropriate message.

  Install all 4 tires.

Remove pressure from the pressure bleeding tool and then disconnect the tool from the vehicle.

Depress the brake pedal to gage pedal height and feel. Repeat steps 1-8 until the pedal is acceptable.

Remove the scan tool from the DLC connector.

  Lower the vehicle.

Inspect the brake fluid level in master cylinder.

Road test the vehicle while making sure the brake pedal remains high and firm.
If the vehicle is equipped with a traction control system (TCS), the scan tool will cycle both the ABS and the TCS solenoid valves. This bleed procedure is the same as above.

After Making Sure ABS PUMP MOTOR GROUND is not corroded, and Ground is Good, also some info for Internal Leak inside pump, and more..

Code   C0286
If you happened to replace Medium Pressure Accumulator switch (MPA) the Part Number is 88983914 this is the improved switch .the old switch that had problem its part number is 12545898(this old part number "sometimes" created problem). The New MPA Switch ( Improved Version),has a different color plastic casing.
If this switch replaced ,and if your EBCM is rebuilt ,you may need to bleed the system, and in some cases if this does not clear the problem in higher speed, then the internal leakage may be the problem also. here are some extra points to consider after replacing the EBCM. some of my customers told me after installing the Rebuilt EBCM ,after they beeded the system with scan tools, the problem cleared.

Code 216 :it might be from past regarding the Injection Timing Control Circuit,or sometimes Fuel Tank cleaner may do the Job.

Code 249: Could be related to Tire size Calibration, and trim level calibration,Use Scan tool to preform Tire Size calibration if needed.

*********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************
If the Codes is not what you have go to next step.
Code    C0286
Circuit Description
The brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV)The Actual PUMP, contains a medium pressure accumulator (MPA). The MPA provides pressure to the front brakes during certain VSES events. The MPA switch is included to monitor the status of the pressure accumulator. The MPA switch is open when the MPA is uncharged.

The integrity of the MPA switch is tested by the EBCM. The MPA is partially discharged during system initialization to open the switch, and then recharged to close the switch. The EBCM continues to monitor the switch to ensure the MPA remains charged. Provided the VSES is not activated, the MPA should remain charged for the entire ignition cycle. If the MPA switch opens within 5 minutes of closing, a fast leakdown condition is detected. If the MPA switch opens after 5 minutes has passed, a slow leakdown condition is detected.
Conditions for Running the DTC
C0282 and C0285
The ignition is ON.
The vehicle speed is greater than 12 km/h (8 mph).
C0286

The ignition is ON.
The MPA switch is closed.
The diagnostic tests for DTC C0282 and C0285 have ran and passed.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
C0282
The MPA switch remains closed when the MPA is discharged for 1-2 seconds, depending on ambient temperature.

C0285
During the MPA charging period, the MPA switch does not close within the time indicated on the following table.

Ambient Temperature
Fault Timer

Greater than 0°C (32°F)
86 sec

Between -30°C and 0°C

(-22°F and 32°F)
170 sec

Less than -30°C (-22°F)
230 sec

C0286
****************************************************************************************************************
Any of the following conditions may cause DTC C0286 to set.

The EBCM detects 2 fast MPA leakdowns during the system initialization period.
The EBCM detects 3 fast MPA leakdowns after the system has initialized.
The sum of the fast and slow MPA leakdowns detected after the system has initialized equals 7.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
The EBCM disables the VSES.
The message center displays the SERVICE STABILITY SYSTEM message.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
The conditions for setting the DTC are no longer present and you use the scan tool Clear DTCs function.

Diagnostic Aids
Thoroughly inspect the MPA switch jumper harness for any condition that may cause an intermittent malfunction. Refer to Testing for Electrical Intermittents , Testing for Intermittent and Poor Connections , Wiring Repairs and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

An intermittent DTC may be difficult to verify since the DTC may take a substantial amount of time to set. If a DTC continues to set intermittently, remove the MPA switch and activate the switch by pressing and releasing the plunger. Ensure the plunger movement is smooth and that the plunger releases readily without sticking. Observe the MPA Switch input on the scan tool to verify that the status changes from Uncharged to Charged every time the switch is pressed. Replace the BPMV if no fault is found in the switch, circuitry or connections. Refer to Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV) Replacement .

Test Description
The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

This step simulates an open MPA switch.

This step simulates a closed MPA switch.

This step tests the MPA switch by closing the switch manual

Important
The introduction of air into the brakes' hydraulic system due to a BPMV replacement or for any other reason may cause DTC C0285 or C0286 to set. If it suspected that air may have been introduced to the hydraulic system, use the scan tool to perform the VSES Automated Bleed procedure and the Bleed MPA procedure before proceeding with this diagnostic table. You must refer to ABS Automated Bleed Procedure for complete system bleeding instructions.
